Last week I was honoured to be asked to join an expert panel for a public discussion organised by the UK Parliamentors and hosted by Manchester University.
The theme was Religion on Trial and the panel comprised our local MEP, lecturers in politics and philosophy, a student leader and yours truly. The large international audience included a cross section of the general public – and was very vocal!
The UK Parliamentors operate in just a handful of selected universities whereby a group of students interested in religion and politics are mentored by a local MP, in our case John Leech MP.
I was struck by the quality of the discussion. Not the usual ‘religion bashing’ you might expect (although I did some of that myself, as it turned out!), but some very thoughtful nuanced debate from a broad range of perspectives all of which were keen to explore ideas around…
